As a health care professional overseeing the care of expectant mothers, your patients’ comfort is a priority. Strain on the back, legs, and abdomen can derail mothers-to-be from maintaining healthy levels of activity and make even the routine tasks of daily life quite painful. Prosthetic & Orthotic Solutions offers medical grade support and compression garments for relief throughout pregnancy.

Whether patients need us for a one-time item or a long-term condition, we adhere to the highest standards for compassionate care. We spend time with patients seeking maternity support to fit for the correct size (and customize depending on the product), teach them how to position their garments, and answer any questions they may have. Guidance from a skilled orthotist reduces frustration, particularly with the donning and doffing process. When patients feel confident in their ability to wear their garments correctly, they are more willing to adhere to everyday wear and therefore achieve maximum benefit.

It is important for patients to know that insurance may cover the cost of maternity support and compression garments when accompanied by a doctor’s order. We accept all forms of MA and CT Medicaid as well as most major insurance plans. (Please see below each featured product for information about insurance requirements.)

Prosthetic & Orthotic Solutions is committed to selecting only the most durable, comfortable products. Our maternity products provide safe, effective relief for expectant mothers:

Mother-To-Be® Maternity Support

This brace provides instant support by scooping under the belly and transferring the weight of the patient’s baby correctly to the spine. The abdomen is lifted and supported without uncomfortable abdominal compression. Back pain, pelvic pressure, and muscle and ligament strain are reduced, while leg circulation is increased. By helping to stabilize the pelvic ring, pressure on the sciatic nerve, common during pregnancy, is relieved within minutes. Using a heat molded back insert, we create a customized fit by matching it to the unique shape of the patient’s back. Velcro straps allow for growth so one brace can be utilized throughout a pregnancy.

Insurance: Typically, a prescription is all that is required for Mother-to-Be® lower back braces.

The following insurance companies also require a letter of medical necessity:

  • Always Health Partners (formally Neighborhood Health Plan)

Compression Stockings

Increased blood volume, hormonal changes, and weight gain add stress to the venous system during pregnancy. For expectant mothers with pain and swelling of the legs, ankles, and feet, or the appearance of varicose veins, compression stockings counteract these conditions. Graduated compression pushes fluid back up so it does not accumulate in the lower extremities. Soft, opaque materials offer all-day comfort and a discreet appearance.

Compression stockings play an important role in healthy living guidelines for maternity patients experiencing signs of venous insufficiency. Combined with appropriate exercise, proper hydration, elevation of legs when swollen, and avoidance of long periods of sitting and standing, compression garments help mothers-to-be stay active and comfortable.

Prosthetic & Orthotic Solutions offers prescription grade maternity stockings for 20-30 mmhg, 30-40 mmhg, and 40-50 mmhg compression levels. We do not stock lower compression levels, as they are not covered by insurance.

Insurance: Typically, a prescription is all that is required for compression stockings.
